Saturday & Sunday, November 1 & 2, 2014  -  Port Townsend Sail Loft


Special Opportunity for BCA Members

This highly regarded sail repair workshop is offered by Carol Hasse and her crew at Port Townsend Sails.  It will take place at the loft in Port Townsend.  This means you will get an opportunity to spend time in the loft, use the industrial sewing machines and other equipment, look at sails that in the loft for repair and get coaching from the many experts on staff.  It is two days of intensive hands-on training.  You will also have an opportunity to purchase sail repair kits and related supplies.  There are only two courses per year and they are usually sold out a year in advance.  BCA has completely pre-booked the 10 available spots in one of these workshops.  Our course will be on the weekend of November 1 & 2, 2014.

Course Outline:

Gain self-reliance in maintaining and upgrading your sail inventory. 

Use a palm and needle to:

  • Sew in a ring or grommet
  • Seize a jib hank
  • Attach a mainsail slide
  • Mend a seam
  • Add a leather chafe guard
  • Make "Easy Reefs"

Use a sewing machine to:

  • Patch a hole
  • Install a chafe guard
  • Fix a torn seam
  • Apply a spreader patch
  • Reinforce a corner ring with webbing

Learn to assess the condition and adequacy of your sail inventory. 

Become familiar with sail repair tools and materials. 

Order items for your own Offshore Sail Repair Kit. 

The Hands-On Sail Repair Seminar Includes:

  • 14 hours of instruction
  • Student to instructor ratio (5:1)
  • Seminar packet with illustrations of handwork techniques
  • Materials for take-home "sampler" and ditty bag project (tools may be ordered)

Workshop Teaching Staff:

The Port Townsend staff has designed this intensive and enjoyable course specifically for off-shore cruisers and other sailors who seek self-reliance in sail care. A five to one student / teacher ratio ensures small class sizes and individual attention from our experienced and capable instructors

About Carol Hasse:

Carol Hasse has been a sailmaker and owner of Hasse & Company Port Townsend Sails, Inc. since 1978. The sails made by Ms. Hasse's loft are world renowned. For two decades, the Seven Seas Cruising Association's membership surveys have acknowledged Port Townsend Sails for building the best offshore cruising sails available anywhere.

Bluewater Cruising Members  -  C $425 each

This is a special BCA price that is a little lower than the standard price of US $400 (C $460 @ 1.15 exch)
